Hi all,
I've just joined the forum so I thought I'd introduce myself. I bought a 1974 Dufour 27 a couple of months ago. She is based in Carnon, near Montpellier, in France. So far I am very happy with the boat. With her dirty hull and old sails she is a little sluggish, but still pretty well behaved. Only trouble comes from the engine that won't spin faster than 1500rpm and spits awful black oil when I try to run it faster. I bought this boat because I wanted a comfortable and secure ship to sail and have holidays on with my 2 years old kid. Also I bought her together with my uncle, who is a total newbie, so a simple and middle-sized boat seemed the way to go.
best simon

Simon I had a similar problem years ago when I first bought my boat. The pervious owner has fitted a large three bladed prop that was just too big and it overloaded the engine. Re fitting the original two blade solved the problem instantly, no more black smoke and oil even at maximum RPM. Check your prop, hope you are just as lucky. Best, Larry

Thanks Larry,
This is a very good suggestion. I have (the original?) 2 blade prop, but I could have a look and check if I can try another prop that would necessitate less power. Or maybe is there friction somewhere between the engine and the prop.
Great to see this forum is alive and active! simon

Hello,
N'étant pas très fort en anglais, je vais la faire dans la langue de Molière. Salut à toi Simon, nous sommes voisins puisque je suis à Port Camargue. Nous allons surement nous croiser dans la baie. Bien cordialement,
Yopman
Hi to you Simon, we are neighbors since I am in Port Camargue. We will probably come across us in the bay. Sincerely,
